This is an early Showa era (c.1930) large kago (bag / basket).  Thought to be either Japanese or Chinese. Very intricately made with woven slit bamboo. It has a large lid the covers the base along with a woven bamboo carrying strap that holds the two pieces together.
It has been in storage for nearly a century and remains, with exception to one small area of loss to the bottom rim (see pictures 6 & 7) in good  condition. It measures 13"long by 10" wide by 10" high (33 x 25 x 25cm) .
